Pre-baptism excitement!

"Dear Sis. Petitt and Sis. Stephen, These two awesome elders were here at our home tonight to help us prepare our friend for baptism. You have amazing sons!! Thank you so much for sharing them with us!!"

- Nothing warms a mother's heart so much as another note from a mom about your son! ;0)

###
This week was legit. We had a TON of lessons this week...which is crazy because we are out in the middle of nowhere. It c
eases to amaze me that there are people out here ready to be baptized. Speaking of which...we set another baptismal date! woo! It's going to be on Feb 1 for Sidney Stone. She's in her 40s...and right now she is battling cancer. She has had the discussions before...and she has always known it's true but she has been putting it off again and again. Finally a couple days ago we got a random call telling us that she wanted to meet up with us. MIRACLE!

We had another lesson with Brittany. Holy cow she is so rock solid. She has been getting a lot of ridicule and backlash from her boss and other co workers for wanting to be baptized. actually...a lot of her friends have been trying to talk her out of it. She was SO mad, upset, and scared because of all what was happening...she then told us that she prayed so she could calm down and know what she was doing was right. The most comforting and peaceful feeling came over her.
Haha, we also gave her the assignment to just read the beginning of the Book of Mormon..and when we came back to visit she had already read the first 17 chapters! BOOM! that's never happened on my mission before. Brittany absolutely LOVES it.

We had a lesson with some FLDS members...that was very interesting. There's actually a lot of them out here. They pretty much believe all the stuff we do...accept they believe that polygamy was never to be done away with..even though they don't practice polygamy themselves. But they were way awesome! This FLDS couple told us they kind of fell away from the church because they didn't like to wear dresses all the time and a number of other things...and they really don't know what church is the true church...but they read the book of mormon and have family home evening!! what the heck!? They could be super solid members...but they just have a couple of doctrines messed up.

Well...this week was filled with a lot of more miracles, i just don't have time to write them all! Things are going well out here in the middle of nowhere. The work is progressing, and we are gaining the trust of members. They like to see hard working missionaries, which is what i'm all about.

Keep it real

In the middle of nowhere ...

Yerp, here I am. IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. Santa Vaca. You guys have to go on google maps and explore this place. There is absolutely nothing here. Well i take that back...we have one gas station, and a little food mart and a post office. dats it. The closest thing to civilization is all the way out in Rexburg...which is where we gotta do all of our shopping and whatnot. And boy is it hillbilly country out here. I'm talking STRAIGHT UP hillbilly. Have y'all ever seen the show Moonshiners? If Austin Ayers is reading this right now he will know exactly what I'm talking about. The people are like that lol. I've been trying to figure out what people do for fun out here...but You know what people talk about up here??? Two things...Weather and the price changes in potatoes.

No puedo Creerlo...jajajaja

In this area you drive..and drive...and drive a whole lot more just to get to church. We cover 5 different wards. The ward we went to yesterday took us about 40 minutes to get there. The only thing that keeps me sane is the beautiful view of the mountains.

Well despite all of this we've been seeing little miracles throughout the week. We gave a lady a priesthood blessing because she was going through a critical time in her life. We had some sweet lessons and we hope to extend some baptismal dates with them. I am super stoked to work with the leadership though...i went to ward council the other day and it was the most productive ward council i've ever been in. OH, Y'all remember Elder Tidwell? My first companion I trained? Well he's in my district!! So that's super fun to work with him and see him. My first born son in the wilderness...I'm so proud of him.

Well that wraps up life with Elder Petitt....life in the middle of nowhere. weeeeeeeee

Transferred to Terreton

I'm getting transferred to Terreton...out in the middle of nowhere...I'm going to be the district leader out there, and I'm going into English work...I'm super upset about all of this. I really loved blackfoot...and I'm going to miss my first baptisms lined up for this month...Ashten and Jose Luis. Man...and I'm going to miss the all the solid members out here like Carlos, the Marias, and others.

We took Fernando Garcia and his family on a church tour. They asked a ton of questions and were pretty engaged. Awesome teaching opportunity. We taught Gorge, a new investigator. He's 22 and he simply wanted to know more about the bible. Of course us missionaries tied in the restoration and book of mormon and invited him to be baptized and he said yes. I love teaching people who are just humble and eager to learn.

Anyways! hope y'all have a fantaaaaastic week

Skyping Christmas 2013

The Spanish Fiesta was OFF THE CHAIN. I'll give ya more of the details when we skype. GAH. It kinda reminded me of the big paint fight/dance party i went to on Novemer 17th...ahhh gooood times. We had a TON of less actives and investigators there, and we were able to do a church tour with another one of our investigator. The spirit was there and he loved it. We've been inviting people like crazy to be baptized, and the zone has been catching fire to that. we are realllllly hoping to get a solid baptismal date with Jose Luis this week. We actually have a baptismal date planned for Jan 4th with this 9 year old named Ashton Mercado. He's a bright little kid and he's a light to his family...his parents are less active, but his grandpa goes to the branch. His grandpa is super solid and he's working closely with us and Ashton.
